Kugan death: Ex-cop acted on his own in assaulting suspect, court told
Our lawyer, Mr Ramesh Sivakumar representing former police constable, V. Navindran, is appealing the three-year jail sentence imposed by the Shah Alam Sessions Court for causing hurt to Kugan.
Counsel Ramesh Sivakumar stated "I believe that the police have rushed to judgment and engaged in a conspiracy to frame my client due to massive public outcry. Our client, Mr Navindran did not cause Kugan's death even though Kugan did die under mysterious circumstances while in police custody".
Mr Ramesh Sivakumar further stated his view that “law enforcement officers with supervisory powers should also be held liable for acts of their subordinates”.
Our client, V. Navindran, is accused of the assault and death of suspected car thief A.Kugan, who died while in police custody.
Kugan’s mother N. Indra filed the suit seeking damages over alleged negligence, assault, false imprisonment and misfeasance of public office as well as breach of statutory duties against the police and the Government over his death.
